Managed Motorways Scheme

The Highways Agency has awarded Balfour Beatty the £77.6m M4/M5 managed motorways scheme construction contract, near Bristol.

MJ Church are proud to have been awarded ‘preferred supplier’ status fromBalfour Beatty to carry out the earthworks operations on this project. We will be working closely with BB to develop the scheme over the coming weeks, with some exploratory works due to take place before Christmas. BB will be calling on our expertise and experience in working on the motorway network to enable the works to be built efficiently and economically whilst minimising disruption to traffic flow. Work will start in earnest in January 2012, with the construction phase running to April 2013. The scheme will call on several of our services including plant and earthworks equipment, our fleet of tipper lorries to import and export materials, tip and recycling facilities, labour and supervision, through to administration, planning, programming and management of our works.

We look forward to working on this prestigious scheme and to contributing to the improvement and safety of our motorway network.

Selly Oak

Christmas Day for many of MJ Church’s employees was a hands on affair this year. Teams worked in shifts around the clock to set the conditions for the heaviest bridge move ever undertaken in the UK with modular transport. As part of a joint tender by Birse Rail and Birse Civils, the £17.5 million scheme was completed 10 hours and 45 minutes ahead of schedule after a 101 hour procession. Modern technology was a key aspect and the undertaking was screened by webcams providing a minute-by-minute update (the full article for The Rail Engineer is attached).
